He had swagger – Calgary real estate mogul Jack Singer dies at 95

A Calgary real estate mogul with a swagger and a flare for the headlines has passed away at the age of 95.

Jack Singer, who’s name graces the downtown Calgary concert hall, died at the age of 95, Saturday, following an illness.

The man who made headlines for his offers to buy everything from baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays, an NFL franchise and New York City’s Empire State building made his money in real-estate.  According to the Calgary Herald, his holdings included apartment buildings, more than a million square feet of downtown office space and undeveloped land in Western Canada and the U.S.

Singer’s name will be preserved in the Calgary’s history, thanks to a family donation of $1.5 million towards the downtown concert hall bearing his name.

A funeral service for Singer will be held on Tuesday.
