Allegations of abuse at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills

On the heels of the Penn State sexual abuse scandal come allegations of a similar situation at an Alberta school.

The RCMP has confirmed to the Calgary Herald it is investigating allegations of abuse at the Prairie Bible Institute, northeast of Calgary in Three Hills, after a complaint was filed by a former student.

Linda Fossen, who now lives in Florida, filed the complaint earlier this week.  Fossen, who notes there is both a website and a Facebook page dedicated to the allegations, says she’s heard from more than 80 alleged victims.  She says many were staff children who were sexually abused.

According to the website, there are also claims of physical and emotional abuse.

Prairie Bible Institute board member and spokesperson Linda Brinks acknowledged the investigation, but wouldn’t elaborate on how many people might be affected by the allegations, including alleged victims.

But in a posting on the school’s website, President Mark Maxwell states, “the individuals purportedly involved are no longer at Prairie.”
