Council to consider turning trash to energy

The idea of turning our trash into energy will be back before Calgary aldermen Monday.

Council will be asked to request a risk assessment of the idea brought to the city earlier this year.

A Calgary company proposes to build a plant to separate recyclables and convert leftover solid waste into energy.

Alderman Jim Stevenson says a report on the idea was supposed to have been done already but wasn’t, due to a ‘slight miscommunication.’

He says a different company is running a plant with the technology near Ottawa and is also building one near Red Deer.
