Witnesses describe murder scene

There was graphic testimony Tuesday at the first degree murder trial for 24 year-old Christopher Watcheston.

He’s charged in the brutal sex slaying of 41 year-old mother of five Arcelie Laoagan near the Franklin LRT station in January, 2008.

A witness said she came across Laoagan’s lifeless body, naked from the waist down and lying on her back still wearing her winter jacket. She couldn’t see the face because it was too badly beaten and bloodied .  She called out to the victim, but after there was no response she ran to the LRT station to call 9-1-1.

One police officer described the scene, telling court the victim’s face was severely beaten and there was blood around and under her.  A touque, socks, a glove and a cell-phone were found scattered around her body.

Another officer testified he saw snow around the 41 year-old victim, except for patches where she had flailed her arms.

The crown says it was a random attack and Watcheston followed Laoagan off the train, sexually assaulted and beat her.  The trial continues Wednesday.
