Optimism is growing in the oilpatch

The mood in the oilpatch has come full circle.

Rising oil prices and an increase in capital budgets has turned the mood from mild pessimism to uncontrolled optimism.

The change is reflected in ATB’s quarterly index of business optimism, which shows Alberta business executives expect the first three months of 2010 to be better than the last three of this year.

ATB economist Todd Hirsch tells The Calgary Sun the change in attitude is surprising simply because natural gas prices were weak throughout the survey period.
