Smoke is hampering some outdoor events in the city, but not all

The poor air quality isn’t preventing Spruce Meadows from holding its “Movies at the Meadows” night.

The host of the event Brett Miles, says they are moving the event into the Equi-plex.

“We move inside when we think the weather is not going to cooperate with us, we’ve always felt that would be rain that would force us inside, but tonight (Wednesday) it’s going to be the smoke and just the overall air condition outside,” said Miles.

He adds there will be plenty to do still at the movie even though it has been cut back due to the venue relocation.

Other events have not been so lucky though. Shakespeare by the Bow in Prince’s Island Park had to cancel its evening performance Wednesday because of the smoke.

But the show is supposed to resume on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The City of Calgary’s website says many outdoor events have been cancelled or moved inside and sports leagues will determine if scheduled play will continue at athletic parks.
