Homicide unit investigating foreign national’s death at Calgary airport

Calgary police are still determining what killed a man involved in an altercation with border agents at YYC Calgary International Airport Tuesday.

The foreign national was being removed from the country on a flight headed to Amsterdam when the incident occurred before takeoff.

The plane returned to the gate, and the man was rushed to the hospital, where he later passed away.

Two Canada Border Service Agents were also treated for minor injuries.

Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm said the incident is being investigated as an “in-custody death,” and they are limited in the information they can share.

An autopsy has been completed, but police say they still don’t have a cause of death, and they are withholding the man’s identity until his family can be notified.

The Calgary Police Homicide Unit is talking to witnesses, hoping to figure out what happened before he went into medical distress.
