End of line for Calgary International Children’s Festival

A local festival is shutting down after 32 years.

The Calgary International Children’s Festival is cancelling operations, effective next year.

Organizers say the event’s ‘unsustainable operating model and cost structure’ are among the reasons for the move.

In a release, board chair Carri Clarke says the children’s fest only earns about 10 per cent of its total revenues from ticket sales.

Yet, organizers are reluctant to raise prices — saying the event needs to be affordable for families with young children.
