The City of Calgary is applauding proposed changes to driver training announced Tuesday by the Alberta Government
Among the changes, which come into effect next year, is mandatory training for Class 1 and 2 drivers and improved safety checks.
Sharon Fleming is the director of the City’s Fleet Services and says they already have a high standard.
“The existing program at the City already includes new hire testing, vehicle inspections and driver recertification every 5 years,” Fleming states. “We will be enhancing some of our governance policies and are already introducing new safety initiatives”
As part of the new initiatives, the City will be expanding inspections of garbage trucks, water trucks and other heavy vehicles.
