Stampede grounds busy on Cenovus Family Day

The stampede grounds are busy Sunday as it is Cenovus Family Day, and many people got in for free before 11 a.m.
Rhona Delfrari, Vice President of Communications and External Engagement for Cenovus Energy said it gives people the opportunity who normally wouldn’t be able to come down. “Some families can’t afford to come down so this give them a chance to enjoy the stampede spirit,” adding, “when you look at the thousands and thousands of people that are coming through the gates here everybody has smiles on.”
There is a lot happening on the grounds, including the Dog Bowl at the Corral, which runs every two hours until 7:30 p.m.
Sunday is also the perfect day to enjoy some local music as the Stampede Showband will perform twice on the Saddledome steps at 1:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
On top of that, several bands from around the city will be playing at McMahon Stadium for Showbands Live! The event starts at 3:30 p.m. and it gives everyone a chance to see each band perform their field show, which is essentially each group telling a story through music while marching to make different formations and shapes. Anyone interested in attending will have to pay $5.
The Coke Stage will also have music with Busty and the Bass opening for Daniel Caesar who starts at 9 p.m. and Nashville North will be rocking when Randy Houser performs at 10 p.m.
The first two days of the Calgary Stampede have seen an increase in attendance so far with a total of 279,241. On Saturday, 116,392 attended the grounds, up from 107,692 last year on the same day.
