Kensington Manor to be demolished by the end of the year.

After residents were forced to leave Kensington Manor in the middle of the night last year the building in Northwest Calgary will be torn down.

The ownership group has informed the city they will demolish it by the end of December.

Wayne Brown with the city says the owners were a day late in informing them but says that’s reasonable in this case.

“There is some complications in regards to the asbestos abatement.” Brown explains, “Often times the asbestos abatement is done prior to a demolition permit being issued. In this case, we had a date and they were a day late but in a situation like this I think we can allow that.”

Crews found severe structural problems in the building, making it unsafe for anyone to live in.

Brown adds in the meantime it shouldn’t pose a risk to pedestrians.
