Calgary fire remind people to avoid fire scenes after someone drives over hose

The Calgary Fire Department is reminding Calgarians of the importance of not driving past a fire scene.

On Tuesday afternoon, while crews battled a blaze at a mobile home in Huntington Hills, someone drove over a hose hooked up to a hydrant.

Spokesperson Carol Henke says people may not understand how dangerous this is.

“That is our lifeline. And so firefighters are in the structure, fighting the fire, searching for anyone who is left inside,” Henke explains. “And it really puts firefighters in an extremely dangerous situation if our water supply is cut off.”

Henke says if you need to drive near a fire scene find some alternate route so you are not driving next to the crews.

An elderly woman was able to escape the fire.
