Young boy dies after being pulled from N.E. pond

A young boy has died after being pulled from a retention pond by a passerby in the northeast community of Saddletowne.

Calgary Police Service confirmed the boy died Saturday in hospital.

EMS’ Stuart Brideaux says the boy was rushed to hospital shortly after 5 p.m. Friday.

“Transported him in critical and life threatening condition to the Peter Lougheed Hospital, as it was the closest hospital in this circumstance,” said Brideaux.

“Police are looking at the factor that led to this incident.”

Brideaux says when crews arrived on scene they discovered the bystander and members of the Calgary Fire Department had already started lifesaving measures, including CPR.
