Alberta Government launching anti-racism initiatives

The Government of Alberta is taking action to combat racism in the province.
Two things will be done immediately, starting with the introduction of the first government organization solely dedicated to fighting racism.
Education Minister David Eggen says the Anti-Racism Advisory Council will guide how to tackle racism and engage Albertans.
“Removes systemic and language barriers to using government programs and services. To educate and inform Albertans to prevent racism and to encourage greater acceptance of diversity.”
The council will include up to 25 members, and there will also be a law enforcement element aimed at supporting positive relationships.
The second part is creating a $2 million anti-racism grants program, but there are more steps the government wants to pursue.
“Starting a foreign qualification recognition fund, to ensure we are using our population and our skills,” added Eggen.
He also hopes to expand the career mentorship program to smaller cities, just to name a few.
