Travel: Retreat to the hills

Getting away to the mountains can mean many different things.

If you need to de-stress and find total relaxation, there are plenty of options in the Banff-Canmore area.

Travel Writer Jody Robbins says retreats are all the rage and Evolve offers packages with personalized fitness and nutrition.

“The chefs make these extraordinary menus with no added sugar, salt, butter. Everything is organic and local,” Robbins said.

“What’s great about it, is you get all these awesome, summer outdoor adventures. They include hiking, biking, horseback riding, mountain climbing, golf, stand up paddleboarding.”

Also new on the scene is the Kananaskis Nordic Spa at the Pomeroy Mountain Lodge.

Robbins says it’s a great option for a do-it-yourself wellness retreat.

“You can go for a hike in the Kananaskis, then visit this Nordic spa. Later, they’re going to open up phase 2 of the spa, which includes a quiet zone,” she said.

“Currently, they have many steam rooms, saunas and outdoor pools you can hang out at. Phase 2 is more traditional, with a meditation labyrinth, a yoga studio and pod hammocks.”

It can get very busy, so her tip is to book a massage to get guaranteed access.
