The only Canadian woman to have her name engraved on Stanley Cup has died

Sonia Scurfield, one time Calgary Flames co-owner and the only Canadian woman to have her name engraved on the Stanley Cup has died at the age of 89.

She co-owned the Flames between 1985 and 1994.

Her name was added to the list of hockey greats when the Flames won the Stanley Cup in 1989.

Scurfield married Ralph Scurfield in Edmonton in 1954 and took over his ownership of the team when he died in an avalanche while heli-skiing in 1985.

She raised seven children in Calgary.

Her son says she passed away peacefully after her battle with cancer.
