Wildfire in northeastern Alberta has residents on alert

An information alert sent out by the province Wednesday night is likely bringing up a whole lot of bad memories in northern Alberta.

The Alberta Emergency Management Agency said an out of control wildfire is currently burning about 10 kilometres south of the hamlet of Janvier.

It is advising residents in the small community to be prepared for a possible evacuation, but there’s no order at this time, and the community isn’t currently threatened by the fire, though smoke is visible at times.

That entire area of northeastern Alberta is experiencing extreme fire hazard due to dry conditions.

Janvier is about 120 kilometres southeast of Fort McMurray.
