RCMP warn long weekend drivers to be safe

Long weekends are often deadly on Alberta highways, which has the RCMP warning drivers to be safe and follow the rules if they are travelling for May Long.

Constable Dan Martin said extra officers are being brought in to monitor roadways around the province.

“There will be an influx of RCMP members as well as sheriffs on the road. In the last few years there has been thousands of tickets written on this weekend, mostly speeding, but we will be looking for seatbelts, distracted driving as well as impaired operation,” explained Martin.

He said officers will be out conducting check-stop near campgrounds, cities and in random spots throughout the province.
