Two men dead after a shooting in Evanston

Two men are dead following a shooting in northwest Calgary, Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene around 3:10 p.m., when they arrived they found the individuals in a Nissan Murano SUV parked behind a stretch of townhomes.

The part of the city is remote with not a lot of foot traffic, unoccupied show homes and buildings still under construction.

It happened in the 0-100 block of Evanscrest Manor N.W.

Investigators blocked off a large section of the neighbourhood while they scoured through the SUV looking at physical evidence.

Evidence cones could also be seen along a path that headed out towards Symons Valley Parkway N.W.

Duty Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson told reporters it’s still an active investigation and there is not a lot they can say on the matter.

Gregson couldn’t comment as to whether there were witnesses and or any ties to organized crime.

He says they are under the belief that this was a targetted attack.

“Lots of resources are deployed out in events like this, we put a lot of front end heavy resources investigating at this point, anything that’s available at this point that could assist,” he said. “We’ve got some areas cordoned off, our Crime Scene Unit is assisting so this area will be blocked off for awhile.”

They’re asking anyone with might have information to give the Calgary Police or Crime Stoppers a call.

Investigators are hoping to provide an update to the media at some point over the weekend.

“We’re still looking for information, trying to put information together.”
