Autopsy complete after child dies at Stoney Nakoda First Nation

The autopsy of a four-month-old girl has been completed, but the cause and manner of death haven’t been determined.

On April 4, around noon, Cochrane RCMP were dispatched to the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, after a report of a child in medical distress at a residence.

Upon arrival, the four-month-old girl was pronounced dead.

Four young adults and 10 other children were also transported to hospitals in the area suffering from “influenza-like symptoms.”

Since then, all but one of the affected children have been released from hospital and the two-year-old girl, who remains in hospital, is in stable condition.

Investigation continues and there is no estimated time of when the autopsy results will be available.
