State of emergency in M.D. of Taber amid flood concerns

A local state of emergency remains in place for the Municipal District of Taber in southern Alberta, Tuesday, as rapidly melting snow leads to flooding concerns.

The municipal office said crews have been busy clearing ice from drainage outlets and culverts and have also set up pumps in numerous locations to try a keep buildings safe.

Officials are asking residents not to pump water into the streets as that could threaten neighbouring lands.

A number of roadways are flooded out, and more could be closed as pools of water continue to grow and move.

Citizens are asked to contact the M.D. of Taber administration office at 403-223-3541 to report new or rapidly changing overland flooding conditions.
