Paul Giannelia, who oversaw Confederation Bridge and Olympic Oval, to take over Green Line LRT

The City of Calgary has appointed Paul Giannelia as the Green Line LRT program director, 660 NEWS has learned.

Giannelia will replace Doug Morgan who has been serving as interim director for the last few months, following the resignation of former transportation manager Mac Logan.

Giannelia is no stranger to infrastructure in Calgary, having worked on previous transit systems.

He’s overseen some of the biggest infrastructure projects in the country, including the Confederation Bridge, the Oldman River Dam and the Calgary Olympic Oval.

He also served as director of project execution for Enbridge’s Northern Gateway Pipeline from 2011 to 2014.

The city is less than a year away from issuing a request for proposal on a winning contract, and council has been told that any delays prior to the award of the contract will cost the city $250,000 per day.
