Warmer weather not helping cold starts in Calgary

The Calgary Police Service wants to make sure vehicles do not get stolen.

The CPS’s Operation Cold Start continues and officers are still finding dozens of cars running with keys inside during the morning commute.

Despite warmer temperatures than experienced over the 2017 holiday season, and early January 2018, officers found 84 vehicles running with keys in the ignition, and drivers nowhere in sight over a two hour period, on Monday morning.

Five of those vehicles were also stolen.

Police are running Operation Cold Start to remind Calgarians that car theft is a crime of opportunity, and leaving the car running with keys inside makes them an easy mark.
