Advance polls open Wednesday in Calgary-Lougheed, where UCP Leader Jason Kenney is hoping to win a seat in the Alberta Legislature.
Mount Royal political scientist Lori Williams says many people will be watching the results closely.
“It’s going to be relatively high profile byelection, as byelections go, because a leader is part of this, and so it looks like these candidates that are running are trying to get their issues, their name, their profile, their party out in a big way,” she said.
There are seven candidates running in total, including Liberal Leader David Khan, and the NDP’s Phillip Van Der Merwe.
Election day is Thursday, December 14, and a debate will be held Sunday, December 10 at the Braeside Community Centre.
