Early investigation suggests French skier killed after safety netting failed

The French Ski Federation says an early investigation into the death of David Poisson, at Nakiska Monday, suggests the safety netting failed and he hit a tree.

The 35-year-old crashed while on a training run, preparing for a world cup event at Lake Louise,

The federation says in a statement that Poisson lost a ski, then fell heavily, and “might have hit a tree after going through the safety netting.”

Poisson won the downhill bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships and was affectionately known as ‘Caillou’ on the circuit.

Nakiska released the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by this and our thoughts and prayers go to his family, and team.”
