Where to mark Remembrance Day in Calgary

Ceremony at YYC Calgary International Airport
Where: 2000 Airport Road NE, Departures Level in front of Montana’s (Domestic Terminal)
When: 10:45 a.m.

Travellers and employees can pause and remember those who have served in past conflicts and honour those who currently serve. An honour guard will included uniformed Calgary police officers, RCMP, Calgary Fire Department and EMS representatives, as well as members of the Royal Air Force, British Army, British Air Force, Canadian Corp of Commissionaires, Royal Canadian Air Cades, Canada Border Services Agency, and the U.S. Department of Security Customs and Border Protection.

 

Field of Crosses Memorial Project Official Remembrance Day Ceremony
Where: Memorial Drive between 3 Street NW and Centre Street.
When: 10:20 a.m.

The family friendly event will encompass musical performances, the traditional laying of wreaths and acts of remembrance. Sections of Memorial Drive will be shut down from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the ceremony among 3,400 white crosses, each representing a Southern Albertan killed while serving in the Canadian military.

 

Hanger Flight Museum Ceremony
Where: 4629 McCall Way NE
When: 10:30 a.m.

Calgarians are asked to arrive early to secure a seat at the outdoor ceremony. Exhibits will be open afterwards with free admission with a donation. Donations to the Veteran’s Food Bank are also encouraged.

 

Battalion Park Ceremony
Where: 3001 Signal Hill Drive SW, west of Sarcee Trail
When: 10:30 a.m.

The Kings Own Calgary Regiment will pilot the ceremony including speeches and a public address. A wreath laying will also take place.

 

The Military Museums Service
Where: 4520 Crowchild Trail SW
When: 10:30 a.m.

Visitors are asked to dress warmly and arrive early. Containers will also be provided for donations to the Veterans’ Food Bank. The museum will be open after the service with free admission.

 

Kerby Centre Ceremony
Where: Kerby Centre Gym, 1133-7 Ave SW
When: 10:50 a.m., doors open 10:30 a.m.

Open to the public with free refreshments following the ceremony

 

Central Memorial Park
Where: 1221 2 Street SW
When: 10:30 a.m.

The ceremony will be marked in front of two statues, one honouring soldiers who fought in WWI, and the other as a tribute to Albertans who fought in the Second Boer War.

 

Jubilee Auditorium Remembrance Day Service
Where: 1415 14 Ave NW
When: 10:30 a.m., doors open 9:30 a.m.

 

Wreaths will be laid by politicians, veterans, military, civic and community organizations. There will also be a march past the west side of the building following the ceremony.

 

Canadian Pacific Remembrance Day Ceremony
Where: 7550 Ogden Dale Road SE, outside main entrance off 69 Avenue SE
When: 10:40 a.m.

CP will pay tribute to the more than 33,000 employees who served in the last century’s two world wars.

 

Remembrance Day tour in Burnsland Cemetery
Where: 27 Avenue and Spiller Road SE
When: 2-3 p.m.

Join in a tour of the cemetery reflecting on the heroes in the Canadian military and RCMP buried there.

 

Remembrance Day at Fort Calgary
Where: 750 9 Ave SE
When: 10:30 a.m.

The special service put on by the RCMP Veterans’ Association of Calgary will feature bagpipes, bugling, readings and choral singers.

 

Chapelhow Legion Remembrance Day Service

Where: 606 38th Avenue, N
When: 10:45a.m. – Doors open at 9:30

The Royal Canadian Legion #284 Chapelhow will be holding a Remembrance Day Service. They are accepting donations to the Veteran’s Food Bank. A lunch is being served to veterans after the service.
