A woman’s quick thinking helped prevent a vehicle fire from spreading to a home in the northwest.
A-Platoon Battalion Chief Alistair Robin said fire crews were called to the house in the 100 block of Citadel Meadow Grove just before 5 p.m., Saturday.
“The home owner was working on his vehicle, a van in front of the house and was having trouble with it he removed a fuel line and not sure what the cause of ignition was but that was the cause of fuel.”
Robin adds the damage was not as bad as it could have been thanks to his wife’s fast thinking.
“She closed the overhead door which stopped the flames from entering the garage which was a great move. He tried to extinguish it himself with an extinguisher which didn’t work and then the extinguished part of it with a second extinguisher so that sort of held if off until fire crews got there,” said Robin.
Upon arrival they found a fully engulfed camper van, firefighters quickly got it under control and protected the attached garage from further damage.
The three occupants of the home were not hurt, the vehicle and exterior of the garage suffered extensive damage.
Investigators are asking the public to email firstname.lastname@example.org for any photos, video or any information regarding the fire especially prior to the CFD arrival.
