Red Deer man dead after rear ending semi on QE2

A man has been killed after rear ending a semi-truck on the QE2.

Didsbury RCMP were called to the crash at about 1 a.m., involving a 59-year-old man from Red Deer driving a Dodge Caravan.

“The tractor-trailer had pulled over to the side of the road, and had the emergency hazards activated,” Corporal Curtis Peters said. “At that time the minivan, which was also travelling northbound on Highway 2, collided with the rear end of the tractor-trailer.”

A collision re-constructionist is investigating, and police are looking into whether alcohol or fatigue played a part in the crash.

“All those factors are still being explored, we don’t expect any charges though at this point. We are unaware of any alcohol or contributing factors, as that part of our investigation is still ongoing,” Peters said.

The Red Deer man was the only occupant in the minivan.
