Uber unveils new expansion for users

Uber is improving its services in Calgary.

The ridesharing company, which came back to the city in December, has launched a driver office and is also introducing Uber Select, which allows you to order a luxury vehicle.

General Manager Ramit Kar said it offers users something a little different

“The experience you are going to get is a little bit more of a luxury experience, so it might be a Tesla, or a BMW, or a Mercedes, and you will get that opportunity to get around town, as well as your standard Uber X and Uber XL options that we have currently,” he said.

The new office has opened up in Inglewood. It’s called the Green Light Hub and it is offering a wide range of assistance for those who want to become drivers.

“They’re going to see full-time staff that are willing to help them out and get through the entire process, with things like, how would I go about getting my Class 4 license, where do I go get a background check with the city done, etc., someone would basically take them through the entire process,” Kar added.

Despite the improvements, Kar said the company is continuing to focus on safety.

“We do things like track telematics, and what that is, we actually will see how a drivers braking is going,” he explained. “If they are braking too much or accelerating too much, things like that, we kind of give coaching to drivers.”

Uber Select will begin in Calgary Monday afternoon.
