Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids seeing uptick in need

Back-to-school is a busy time for families, but it’s also busy for a local agency that provides thousands of lunches each day, to students who would otherwise go hungry.

Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK) works in partnership with schools in our city and they are seeing the demand continuing to grow. Volunteers at this time last year packed 2,500 lunches per day and this year, they are expecting to start at 3,200.

“We have a lot of people that want to help and be a part of this,” executive director Tanya Koshowski explained. “We’ve got a few thousand volunteers and really the most effective way for people to help us is through financial donations and we can keep our costs fairly low. Our cost out of the kitchen is one dollar a lunch.”

Parents seeking support for their kids through the program are encouraged to contact their school.
