Lethbridge police say a 20-year-old man, who was armed with a rifle and nearly five dozen rounds of ammunition, was the reason a major thoroughfare was closed early Tuesday morning.
That city’s police chief dubbed the situation extremely dangerous and Lethbridge’s Whoop-Up Drive was shut down for nearly two hours Thursday morning as they apprehended the man, who was said to be suicidal and locked himself in his vehicle with his weapons.
Authorities had to call in a crisis negotiator to help.
The 20-year-old is facing weapons charge and police will also be seeking a 30-day psychiatric remand.
