Calgary construction season to hit top gear in August

It’s construction season in Calgary and if July seemed busy just wait, because August is when things really pick up.

Chris McGeachy with Calgary Roads says the good weather is the main factor.

“We actually begin the paving program in June, but it continues from June until the end of September or early October,” he said.

If it seems like there is more work being done this year compared to the last couple of years, that’s because there is.

“This year we’ve actually got 12 larger capital projects happening compared with six or seven which are usually tendered,” he explained.

McGeachy says they’re taking advantage of the low price of oil and the chance to stimulate the economy.

One of the big projects will happen this weekend and next weekend on Anderson Road from MacLeod Trail to 14 St.

Other places to watch out for next month include 14 St NW from Memorial Drive to 8 Ave. and MacLeod Trail from 34 Ave. to 58 Ave.
