Tsuut’ina First Nation announces historic development

Calling it a historic announcement, the Chief of the Tsuut’ina says an ambitious new development plan along the southwest ring road may be the largest First Nations development in the country.

It is a three-phase plan with developer Canderel that includes 1,200 acres of retail, entertainment, business, and research properties. Chief Roy Whitney explained the deal came after years of planning, discussion and democratic voting among their community.

“Tsuut’ina has actively made a decision that we intend to make our home, this land, and the people on it, a place where the future is embraced, while the past will always be remembered and cherished,” he stated.

Work on the development is to coincide with work on the ring road; it is expected to begin within two or three years and take up to 20 years to finish.

The price tag is pegged in the billions.
