Police look to public for help in 2014 murder of Erin Woods girl

City police have now classified the 2014 death of an Erin Woods girl on December 19th, 2014 as a homicide.

Investigators are keeping tight-lipped about many of the details surrounding the case.

According to a release, Olive Rebekah Oluwafemi had gone into cardiac arrest at 3:30 pm at her Erin Ridge Road S.E. home; she wasn’t breathing when first responders arrived.

Crews rushed the little girl to hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Oluwafemi’s death had been considered a suspicious death, thinking perhaps the child had choked; that has since been ruled out and it is now considered to be murder.

It’s believed the injuries she incurred were inflicted within the family home and were not the result of falling down the stairs or playing.

Investigators are interviewing both of Oluwafemi’s parents, who police add are not being cooperative at this stage.

“No charges have been laid in this incident, so we can’t release the identity of anyone we’re looking at with respect to suspects etc.,” said Chisholm, who adds they have identified potential suspects.

He wouldn’t release any information as to who was in the home at the time; Oluwafemi was an only child living alone with her parents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Calgary Police or Crime Stoppers.

Chisholm also couldn’t go into detail into what kind of help they are in need of from the public, only saying they believe there may be others with information.

“Child death investigations are incredibly complex and there are a number of steps we have to undertake to complete an investigation,” he said. “They will not be released, if at any time until after charges are laid.”

He also could get into detail about a timeline surrounding her injuries.

Homicide investigators are also unaware of any visitors to the property.

Oluwafemi’s death is Calgary’s 31st homicide of 2014.
