Juno awards attract Canadian music royalty to Regina

Canadian music royalty are descending on Regina for the 42nd Annual Juno Awards this weekend.

Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ put her on the map in the last 12 months, and she leads this year’s list of nominees with five including Single of the Year.

Teen heart throb Justin Bieber has four nominations including Artist of the Year, followed by Marianas Trench, Leonard Cohen and Metric with three each.

Senior Entertainment Reporter Ben Carozza with MSNBC says Metric is among confirmed performances for the show, but there’s someone else he’s looking forward to: k.d. Lang.

“She hasn’t really performed live in a long time especially in this sort of a venue so I think it will be very interesting to see what she does,” says Carozza.

There are 45 award categories this year, but in the name of better television fewer than 10 will be awarded during the broadcast, with the bulk of the trophies getting handed out at a gala Saturday night.

Eleven-time Juno Award winner Michael Buble is the master of ceremonies, which begins at 7:00 p.m. MST Sunday.
