Midwinter Blues Fest kicks off in Inglewood

A week-long music festival, the 7th annual Midwinter Bluesfest, gets underway Monday night in Inglewood.

Festival spokesperson Cindy McLeod tells 660News, artists such as Rocky Lawrence, Lloyd Jones and Steve Kozak’s West Coast All-Stars will be performing at various venues this week.

“The first Monday through Thursday are at The Blues Can, a local blues establishment,” says McLeod, “and then Friday and Saturday are at the Kerby Centre. And we have a special noon hour performance on the Wednesday that is in partnership with the Pro Arts Society and it’s at the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer, downtown Calgary.”

The line-up of performers shouldn’t leave local blues fans wanting.

“Rocky Lawrence, who is a specialist and a foremost expert in all things Robert Johnson,” says McLeod, listing off the line-up of artists.  “Then there’s Lloyd Jones who will do an acoustic set on the Thursday, and then his band will join him, Lloyd Jones Struggle, for our dance party on the weekend.  Steve Kozak’s West Coast All Stars — Steve is out of Vancouver, as is his band — Steve just recently won the Maple Blues Award for best new artist.  And Graham Guest from Edmonton, who just returned from the International Blues Challenge in Memphis where he was one of the top eight.”

The shows at The Blues Can, Monday through Wednesday, are free events.

You’ll need tickets for the shows on Thursday through Saturday at The Blues Can and Kerby Center.  Thursday, Lawrence, Jones and Graham Guest appear at The Blues Can.  Friday at the Kerby Centre, it’s the Lloyd Jones Struggle, and Saturday at the Kerby Centre Steve Kozak’s West Coast All Stars take the stage.
