World Cup could have Calgary bars opening early

Some city aldermen are hoping for us to be able to join the World Cup party.

Bars here would have to open at 5:30 a.m. for people to catch many of the opening kick-offs during the month-long event in South Africa.

The Ship and Anchor Pub tells the Calgary Sun the earliest they can open is 6:30 a.m., with dry beer taps until 10 a.m.

Aldermen Ray Jones, John Mar and Joe Connelly say they’re behind letting bars open early during the global party, even if only for non-liquor sales.
