Thousands turn out to long-time Calgary run and walk

Thousands of Calgarians kicked off their Mother’s Day with a little exercise for a big cause.

The Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run and Walk is an annual event, with Calgary celebrating it’s 33rd year.

You didn’t have to be in shape to take part in the event, with some participants calling it their ‘once-a-year’ workout!

Others are more used to the exercise, and said they used the run as a replacement for their daily workout.

Paul Vogel tells 660News, athlete or no, it’s a great way to get some exercise and spend some quality time with the family.

“We’re not avid runners but we come out each year and try and get geared up.   We use this as the focus for a little bit of exercise as a family and we join other members of my wife’s family who live here in Calgary, from grandparents through to cousins and nieces and nephews,” he says.

All funds raised go to the Calgary Health Trust.
