Calgarians rally to back mother’s attempt to get her son back

A Mother’s Day rally is planned for 2pm in front of the Harry Hays building for a Calgary mother, whose 12-year-old son is being held in foster care in Oregon.

When Lisa Kirkman travelled to Oregon in the summer of 2008, she was planning to bring her son Noah back home following a visit with his stepfather.

However, local authorities seized Noah claiming he was abandoned by his mother.

The special needs youngster was picked up when local police stopped him for not wearing a helmet while riding his bike.

But Kirkman tells 660News, she thought it became obvious in court that the judge, who started the state’s youth drug court program, didn’t like the fact she worked for a pro-marijuana magazine and had a minor drug conviction in her past.   She says it was for medical marijuana.

In the last two years, Noah has been shuffled between four foster homes in Oregon and he hasn’t seen his mom since last July, when authorities decided they would no longer allow her into the U.S.

Friends, family, and supporters of the Kirkmans will be wearing yellow ribbons during the Mother’s Day rally in front of the Harry Hays building downtown.   They’re hoping to prompt the Harper government into repatriating the youngster.
