Smoking could be banned in Calgary parks

Stop smoking in parks and playgrounds.

That’s what an anti-smoking group wants to see happen in Edmonton and possibly Calgary as well.

The director of “Action on Smoking and Health” tells the Calgary Sun they’re campaigning in the provincial capital to see that happen and depending on how that goes, Calgary could be next.

Thirty municipalities have already banned smoking in parks, with Vancouver being the most recent.

The possible ban did not get support from most of the Calgarians 660News spoke with Wednesday morning, although there were some supporters.

Many said there shouldn’t be any health concerns in an open area like a park, and the littering bylaw should already cover discarded butts.
