Sarah Palin was in Calgary Saturday night for her first Canadian appearance, since stepping down as Governor of Alaska.

The former Republican Vice Presidential contender gave a speech to an audience of about 1,200 people at the BMO Centre on the Stampede Grounds. Tickets were $220.

Sarah Palin says Alberta gets her message about less government, lower taxes and developing natural resources.

She got laughs and applause when she joked about being mistaken for a Canadian, because of her unique accent and received a standing ovation after her speech.

Although a vocal opponent of health care reform in the U.S., Palin revealed that when growing up near Whitehorse, her family would cross the border into Canada to receive health care.

In her speech, Palin thanked Transcanada Corporation for its bid to build a pipeline to connect Alaska to Alberta.

Canadian senator and former journalist Pamela Wallin moderated a question and answer period with her after she spoke.

Palin is one of the world's most recognizable and controversial political figures.

The outspoken conservative's memoir, Going Rogue has sold millions of copies.

Palin has been a regular commentator for Fox News and speculation is growing that she will run for president of the U.S. in 2012.
