Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed Russell Williams, 46, the wing commander of CFB Trenton, has been charged with the first-degree murders of both Jessica Lloyd of Belleville and Marie Comeau of Brighton.
Police told a Monday news conference that the 46-year-old Williams,of Tweed, Ontario, was arrested Sunday in Ottawa.
Comeau was a 38-year-old corporal from Brighton with CFB Trenton's 437 squadron and was found dead in her home November 25, 2009.
Lloyd's body was found earlier Monday.
Williams is also charged with forcible confinement, break and enter and sexual assault after two women were sexually assaulted during two separate home invasions in the Tweed area in September of 2009.
He appeared in Belleville court Monday afternoon, walking confidently into the provincial courthouse in hand and leg shackles, wearing a blue prison-issue jumpsuit and blue booties.
Williams was remanded in custody and will appear by video on Feb. 18.
A publication ban was ordered as is typical in bail hearings, and there is a publication ban on the names of the sex assault victims.
The Department of National Defence says it will review what action to take with the base commander.
A statement, from Chief of the Air Staff Lt.-Gen. Andre Deschamps, says 1 Canadian Air Division in Winnipeg will do a review to determine ``the most appropriate'' action to take regarding Williams.
