West LRT traffic delays will get worse

It has been a long difficult commute in and out of the core along the West LRT construction route this summer.

For many motorists, headaches intensified on Thursday as traffic volume returned to normal with the start of school.

The southwest traffic nightmare stretches from the corner of 69th Street and 17 Avenue to the inner-city community of Sunalta.

Gordon Stewart, the city's director of transportation infrastructure says the next three months will be the worst for drivers.

Within a week, 17th Avenue will be reduced to just one lane in each direction from 69 Street S.W. to 33 Street S.W. There will also be a number of lane closures and detours on Bow Trail in the coming months.
