A man is in RCMP custody after firing a rifle at police early Thursday morning.

Around 2:30 police were called to the Elkton Valley, west of Didsbury, for reports of a man with a rifle threatening another man.

When police got there, the man took off in his truck, ramming police vehicles along the way.  The truck got stuck in a creek bed a short time later and mounties in the area were fired at.

Officers created a perimeter around the man and he was eventually taken into custody.

No charges have been laid against the 31-year-old man who has been taken to hospital for an assessment.
