An all-candidate mayoral forum is happening tonight in Calgary.

Almost all of the people running for the city's top job will be taking part giving Calgarians a chance to hear platforms and ask questions.

But Mount Royal University's Keith Brownsey says, it's not just about getting in front of voters in person Candidates also have to get online.

Brownsey tells 660News social media is becoming an increasingly important factor in elections.

"Everything from twitter, facebook, blogs, websites of one sort or another are all becoming more and more important and (an) essential part of any election campaign."

But he says no matter what, the single most defining feature of any campaign is old fashioned human contact, knocking on doors, putting up lawn signs and getting messages out.

Tonight's forum begins off at 7 p.m., at the Holy Trinity Family Activity Centre located on 44 Street southeast, next to Forest Lawn High School.
