What caused a 9-year-old boy to fall 28 storeys to his death?

That's what investigators are trying to figure out after what's being called a tragic accident Tuesday afternoon.

The boy went over the balcony railing at a highrise apartment building at 123 10th Avenue SW.

Since it was in the middle of the day, many people saw the boy plunge to his death.

New information is now coming to light about what may have led to the fall.

It's believed the boy may have needed a boost to get over the railing, which is more than a metre high.

Officers confirm to the Calgary Herald they found a skateboard and a bike on the balcony.

They are looking at every angle on this case and will be doing more interviews with witnesses and trying to look at surveillance tape.

"We will be speaking with the mother further. We've provided her some victim assistance but I imagine investigators will want to do some follow up interviews with her," Duty Inspector Terry Larson tells 660News.

The mom didn't see the incident but says the boy was reading on the balcony before the fall.

Witnesses say she was hysterical and distraught as she ran to be by her boy's side.

Family friends say the boy was an only child and his name was Sami.

They describe him as a smart, happy and lovely child.
