WestJet is on the hook for damages to a passenger's suitcase following a ruling from the Canadian Transportation Agency.
Karen Kipper complained after a Toronto-to-Winnipeg flight last year when she found one of her three checked bags had a large dent.
After putting in a claim with WestJet, its agents claimed the carrier wasn't liable for dents because they are part of normal wear and tear.
The agency said WestJet failed to provide any evidence that it was not responsible for the damage or that the suitcase had an inherent defect that would have caused the damage.
It ordered WestJet to pay Kipper the cost of repairing the suitcase.
