The Calgary Police Service and Fairy Tales Film Festival have joined forces to promote dialogue about transgender issues.

On Tuesday night, they aired documentaries focused on the universal
transgendered experience of finding an identity and gaining acceptance.

Constable Lynn MacDonald with the Diversity Resources Unit tells 660News it is important to have a forum like this in order to understand the challenges transgendered people face everyday.

She also says it's also critical to engage in conversation so individuals won't be as victimized and feel like they have to hide behind closed doors.
