The CBE is cutting 192 full-time teaching positions, along with 79 support staff and six custodial jobs.

The cuts were announced Tuesday as part of its operating budget for the coming year. The CBE is facing a $10 million deficit.

The school board is hoping not to lay anyone off and anticipates that about 200 people will resign or retire before the new school year begins.

The CBE says if it does have to let new teachers go, it hopes to hire them back as contract workers or substitutes.
