The roof on the Saddledome nearly exploded Friday night as the Calgary Hitmen defeated the Tri-City Americans 4-1 to capture the WHL title.
More than 15,000 fans packed the arena to take in the victory, which advances the Hitmen to the Memorial Cup. It gets underway on May 14 in Brandon, Manitoba.
Calgary goalie Martin Jones was named post-season MVP.
The Hitmen last won the title exactly 11 years ago to the day, May 7, 1999, when they finished off the Kamloops Blazers in five games.
